Large spider and varicose veins can be eliminated by laser therapy and/or injection of sclerosing agents that will coagulate the vessel walls with ease. These treatments are very effective, safe and essentially painless.
Sclerotherapy is the treatment of unwanted varicose veins, the procedure is performed, injecting a sclerosing agent inside the unwanted vein to be treated, this causes collapse of the blood vessel. The injections are performed with a very small needle 30 gauge which has the thickness of an eyelash, at Eternamd these injections are performed solely by a licensed medical doctor.
After the treatment is done there are post care instructions that need to be followed in order to avoid the blood vessel to become patent again this include: using special hoses, avoid alcohol consumption, avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks after each treatment.
Usually a series of treatments are needed to achieve the desire results. Post treatment reactions may include redness and bruising. A Doppler evaluation of the deep venous system is needed before the treatment to rule out incompetence of the deep veins, at Eternamd we perform Doppler evaluation before we start with the sclerotherapy sessions.
Laser medicine has progressed to a point where vascular lesions such as spider veins, telangectasias, hemangiomas, and even port-wine stainscan be safely and effectively treated without affecting the skin surface.
The laser energy is absorbed by the unwanted vascular structures in the skin, which thenheats the blood vessel wall resulting in the closure or elimination of the vessel. Newer lasers like the SCITON are able to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin while protecting the skin surface.
The power of the laser is individualized for each patient and repeated treatments over the same area every 6-8 weeks may be required. Most telangiectasias and spider veins may need only 3-5 treatments for significant lightening.
Is it painful: Laser vascular treatments may be mildly uncomfortable. Contact cooling as well astopical anesthetic may be used to minimize discomfort.
What should you expect after the treatment:
A laser vascular treated area can become bruised for one to two weeks after laser treatment.
Are there any side effects:
Existing laser research indicates that laser surgery is safe; however there is no guarantee that your condition can be completely treated by laser. Although side effects are minimal a small risk is present for hypo or hyperpigmentation, skin texture changes, temporary swelling or bruising, activation of cold sores, incomplete removal of lesions or recurrence of lesions.
Who will perform the procedure: At eternamd only licensed phycisians will perform your laser vascular treatments.
