Sclerotherapy is the treatment of unwanted varicose veins, the procedure is performed, injecting a sclerosing agent inside the unwanted vein to be treated, this causes collapse of the blood vessel. The injections are performed with a very small needle 30 gauge which has the thickness of an eyelash, at Eternamd these injections are performed solely by a licensed medical doctor.
After the treatment is done there are post care instructions that need to be followed in order to avoid the blood vessel to become patent again this include: using special hoses, avoid alcohol consumption, avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks after each treatment.
Usually a series of treatments are needed to achieve the desire results. Post treatment reactions may include redness and bruising. A Doppler evaluation of the deep venous system is needed before the treatment to rule out incompetence of the deep veins, at Eternamd we perform Doppler evaluation before we start with the sclerotherapy sessions.
