At eternamd, we have several treatment modalities to improve the appearance of scars after surgeries, small biopsies, and stretch marks which are considered internal scars that are formed when skin is stretched and collagen fibers break.

Any scar, including stretch marks at the initial stages, has a pink/purple discoloration which means that there is still circulation within the scar. At later stages, circulation ceases and the scar becomes dark or white.

It is always better to initiate treatment of scars/stretch marks during the initial stages as the outcome of the scar removal treatment will be better.
At eternamd, a consultation will be done by a physician before initiating any scar removal treatment, to decide which treatment will suit you better, on certain occasions you will need a combination of treatments.

Scar/stretch mark treatments available:

Carboxytherapy: Injection of CO2 gas inside the scar itself to improve circulation, improving proper healing. The application of the gas is done with a very small needle, there is no downtime, you may experience a slight burning sensation while the gas diffuses within the scar and surrounding tissues. In order to achieve good aesthetic results, a series of treatments is recommended. Treatments are done twice a week for a period of approximately 9 weeks. Red Light Therapy: is a painless procedure in which red light is applied directly to the scar, this scar removal therapy will decrease redness and the discoloration of the scars, also it enhances the absorption of any products, in the case of stretch marks, a special stretch mark cream is applied to the area and then exposed to the red light. The procedure is painless, each session lasts 20 minutes. Red Light Therapy should be done in a series of treatments, alone or in a combination with other treatment modalities.

Medical microdermabrasion:Medical Microdermabrasion: is used for the treatment of hypertrophic scars. With Microdermabrasion, we exfoliate the thick epidermis on top of the scar, sanding it to the level of the normal skin.

Intralesional injection with corticosteroids: is used for the treatment of keloid scars. A long acting corticosteroid is injected within the scar. This will cause atrophy of the tissue, causing the scar tissue to level off with the normal tissue.

Laser peel: is performed with a Sciton laser, which is a resurfacing laser that can target specific scar tissue. The depth of treatment varies according to the scar tissue to be treated, and only the physician will determine this parameter. Photodynamic therapy is a process by which a photosensitizing agent (LEVULAN: ALA) is applied to your skin, then activated with a specific wavelenghth of light.
Levulan application is painless, once activated with the BLUE light it targets active skin cells such as acne sebaceous glands.
After the treatment you will peel for the next 4-5 days, on day#5 an enzymatic peel will be performed to remove any dead skin.
PDT is used for trearment of pre-cancerous skin conditions, acne, and also for photorejuvenation.

Blue and red light phototherapy provides drug free red and blue acne therapy, the blue light is 414 nm wavelength that kills bacteria deep in the skin where topical treatments can not reach. It can be used alone or to activate Levulan in cases of severe cystic acne.
